The Shanks II was designed in Vemuram’s Tokyo based workshops to create thick dirty fuzz with a softer tone than the Shanks 4K. It’s been based on the vintage sounds of a Buzzaround to give you the classic tones of the late 60s and early 70s.
Like the 4K, this is one of Vemuram’s collaborations with producer John Shanks. Over the years Shanks has worked with Van Halen, Bon Jovi, Sherryl Crow, Bob Dylan, Santana and Sting… I think you get the picture, he knows what he’s talking about.
Build Quality
You can really stamp on this pedal thanks to Vemuram’s signature all-brass body. This thing is tough and feels weighty in your hand. The internals have been built to a high spec too. There’s also 3 Orange Drop capacitors making sure you have a reliable and durable circuit. And Unlike the germanium used in the 4K, Vemuram have opted for a combination of silicon and FET.
As with many of Vemuram’s creations, there’s a tiny Philips-head adjustable bias trimmer on the side of the pedal. So no matter what pickups you’re using, you can dial in the range of fuzz to suit you.
